Dr. C. William Hanke has a world-wide reputation as a leader, lecturer, and researcher in dermatologic surgery. He founded the Mohs Micrographic Surgery Unit of Indiana University School of Medicine. He has treated thousands of patients using Mohs micrographic surgery and laser. At the time of his departure from academia in 1998, Dr. Hanke was Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology. He was the first physician in the United States to earn triple full professorships in Dermatology, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He has been President of five surgical specialty societies; the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American College of Mohs Surgery, the International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons, International Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons. He served as President of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Hanke served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology. He has contributed over 400 articles to the medical literature including over 100 book chapters. He is Board certified in Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Laser surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, and Dermatologic cosmetic surgery. The Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana is a state-of-the-art facility on the north side of Indianapolis. The facility is a specialty center for skin cancer, laser surgery, and cosmetic surgery.
